I received the following question-
I know you are super busy and probably have many other things to worry about besides what I am wearing for a wedding!! But, I would love to have a quick opinion. I found this necklace on Etsy and I really do like it, but wondering if it would be too much with a navy dress. And then wondering how bad it would look if the color is not an exact match? It’s so hard to tell on a computer screen.
Bridal Jewelry Something Blue Dark Blue Pearls by DivineJewel on Etsy $25
I also found this one, and thought maybe the grey pearls would look better since I plan to wear silver or grey satin shoes??
Bridesmaid Necklace Navy Blue Flower Necklace by PrettyNecklaces at Etsy $32
Then I got to thinking that I really love the first one the most, because I love that rhinestone flower. So maybe I could ask her to do it with grey pearls instead of the blue??
What do you think?
P.s. I also found these earrings and I love them. But then didn’t know what to do for a necklace. So I thought maybe I should find a necklace first, then worry about the earrings.
Blue Sapphire Earrings Silver and Blue Wedding by Bellezamia at Etsy $27
First of all, I’m never too busy for fashion. 😉 Here’s what I think. I’m with you, I’m completely in love with those earrings. And here’s a solution, buy them and don’t wear a necklace! There are alternatives!
Set yourself free from the necklace/earring combo. Find an awesome cocktail ring that you love or a bracelet or two or three (maybe even a cuff) that go. But don’t feel stuck trying to find a necklace. I think sometimes a bigger earring really needs to just stand on its own. (Check out how many ladies this year at the Oscars that went with bare necks.) Especially when you’re wearing your hair up. There’s an option too, you could wear something in your hair.
I say, go with what you LOVE. Because when you buy things that you LOVE, you will wear them again. And be excited to wear them! And it can be hard to find things that you feel strongly about!
Can’t wait to see the fabulous pictures!
I am sucker for the royals. It’s a bit embarrassing but I do love to watch pretty much anything about Charles and Diana and see the whole train wreck that was their marriage unfold. But even more than that, I was glued to the TV when William and Kate got married. It was so wonderful to watch. And they seem so happy together.
That brings me to tonight’s topic, Kate’s style. I assume that she has a whole team of stylists that keep her looking so wonderful, but if not, then the girl has some good taste. So far I haven’t seen one bad example from her about how to dress like a lady and be appropriate for the event. And I especially love how she faithfully relies on neutrals (not just black) and red to wow the world with her outfits. Now if only the rest of the world could follow her decorum and get out of their pajamas.
Here are a few of my favorite Kate looks-

I mean, who can forget that Grace Kelly wedding gown?!
I sincerely wish William and Kate the best of luck. They had an excellent first year and I hope they can continue to be an inspiration for not only fashion, but self control and young people in the public eye. So far, they have really set a good example.
As it is Beauty Shop Saturday, I thought I’d take a look around and see if there were any new products on the market for hot rollers. I don’t always hot roll my hair, but it is the easiest way for me to get volume and long lasting curls quickly. So I do use them a few times a week. The ones I own are getting rather old and if they decide to die on me any day (or my daughter loses all of the clips, which make in fact happen), I’d like to know how I’m going to replace them.
I’d love to try the Instyler. What can I say, I’m a infomercial addict. But at close to $100, I think that’s probably not a hot commodity on my list of must haves.
A friend of mine says she relies on steam rollers, but I’m just not sure I’ve mastered that whole situation. I’m sure the curl lasts longer and is probably WAY better for your hair than hot, but I always end up burning myself and get the curler too soggy. 🙁
Here are some hot roller sets I’ve been eyeing-
It might be nice to splurge on a ceramic set.
XTreme Instant Heat Multisized Hot Rollers from Conair $42
I also don’t like the ones with these type of clips. They tend to leave funny marks on the hair.

I’d also like some that heat up quickly.
Revlon RV 261 20-Roller Iconic Professional Hairsetter from Amazon $23
What’s your favorite way to curl your hair? Do you have a favorite set of hot rollers?
We have a small getaway coming up and I’m thinking about what to pack. We have a confirmation to attend but that’ll probably be the only formal event. I know I’ll bring a dress, the question being, which one?
Since the graduation, confirmation, Mother’s Day season is upon us (and soon-to-be, wedding season), I know many of you will be wondering the same. You want to be formal but the day doesn’t belong to you, so discreet.
Here’s a few ideas (and hopefully I will pick something soon!)-
Tahari Teak Stretch Cotton Poplin Belted Dress from BlueFly $97
This one is pretty versatile. You could wear this dress for any of the above events. And dress it up a little more and it can still do date night.
In a Snap-Dragon Dress from ModCloth $99
This dress is very ladylike without being boring. I love that the print that has a least three colors in it to help pair with all sorts of other pieces.
MinkPink Four Seasons Panelled Dress from Revolve Clothing $62
This dress is more for a wedding than say a graduation because of the fun details on the bottom and the strappy top.
I’ll let you know what I decide!
It’s Me, Style from the Sticks. I’ve been playing with my blog template and trying to give myself a bit more of the look and feel that I’m hoping to eventually have on my blog site.
What do you think of the new look?
This is one spring update that I am excited to purchase, cat-eye sunglasses. Every summer I go through about four pairs of sunglasses which is why I don’t spend more than $20 on a pair. It never fails that they get stepped on (by me) or snapped (by a child) or lost (my husband). So I try not to get too attached. I just can’t get them to last. I have no idea what you poor folks do that have prescription sunglasses. I would be a nervous wreck waiting for the day they were broken.
As for sunglasses, you know the styles- Jackie O bug eyes, the Risky Business Ray Bans, the Angelina Jolie aviators. This year, it’s all about the cat-eyes.
Here are some you may see on me, that is if they don’t get broken first.
Leopard Print Ramona Glasses from Fred Flare $14
I love how retro these are. Definitely go with a pinup swimsuit.
Jennifer Lopez I Heart NY Cat’s Eye Sunglasses from Kohl’s $20
And if you are really feeling the pinch, check out the price tag on these-
Cat Eye Sunglasses from Forever 21 $6
I hope you enjoyed my spring wardrobe updates! Hopefully these pieces will breath some new life into your warm weather clothes!
I’ve said this before and I’m going to go ahead and beat that dead horse. If you don’t already own a striped shirt, you should seriously consider getting one. If not, you’ll be missing a huge trend and a classic piece all rolled into one.
Pair it with neutrals, pair it with color, pair it with your white jeans or shorts, add a scarf, throw on a blazer, the options are limitless.
Here are a few-
QSQ Highway Striped Tee from Quiksilver $48
Knotted Striped Tee from Forever 21 $11
Striped Seamless Tee from New York and Co $13
Think of this piece as you would your red espadrilles. When you can’t figure out what shirt to put with an outfit, add the striped tee.
Pretty much my number one rule with all things fashion (and pretty much my entire lifestyle too)- style trumps function. It is a fact that frustrates my husband to no end, but I know this about myself. In a perfect world these two things would always align. But there just aren’t many pairs of high heels that you can wear while gardening. And do your tools have to be pink? No, but they are cuter. And are twinkle lights energy efficient, no. But all these things are all necessary.
Such is the case with my anorak jacket. I love my anorak jacket. What exactly is an anorak jacket? According to Wikipedia (the source of all knowledge online), it is a heavy jacket with a hood. It can also be interchanged with the word parka. The anorak jacket is supposed to be waterproof with drawstrings at the waist and cuffs whereas the parka is typically down and knee-length.
My jacket does not fit this description. It does not have a hood, it is not waterproof (even though it looks it). It isn’t even warm. Really all it has is drawstrings at the waist. But I still love it. And according to Ann Taylor Loft, that is what an anorak is.
The anorak may be last season’s new “must have” but let me tell you, it is still fashionable. It still trumps an oversized sweatshirt, a pullover windbreaker or a dingy old fleece.
Here are a few that I’d buy if I wasn’t already in a relationship with one-
Hooded Drawstring Anorak Jacket from Charlotte Russe $21
Tencel Twill Anorak from Bebe $90
Now, if you want to hear a few success stories of where style and function get married and have babies, I can tell you about my water glasses, when I first had a Michelob Ultra Lime Cactus or when eyeglasses first got their dark tint.
I know it feels a little like it’s 1990 and you’ve just been asked what you’re going to wear to the junior high dance, but a denim shirt is a comeback kid this season (and even last).
It can be tricky. There are many in the fashion world that say don’t abide by that old fashion rule and go ahead and wear that denim suit. I mean, denim on top, denim on bottom. I, for one, am not that forgiving.
Leave the denim suits to the models. For us regular folk, please mix it up a bit. Here are a few options I found on Pinterest-
From champagneandsequins.tumblr.comI love this idea of the maxi skirt and the denim shirt.
Image from google.comI also like this take on the mini and the cowboy theme (taken from a runway)
I like the lace and wedge sandals. The lace really creates a weight to the outfit that matches the weight of the denim.
Don’t know where to find one? I personally would check out your local Goodwill (as these have come and gone in the fashion years, you’ll be sure to find one). But if you like new, here’s one-
Only Denim Shirt from Yoox $45
Denim shirts, not just for the cowboys anymore…
With a new house, Pinterest has taken over my life! Trying to decide what colors to paint, etc., it really has been helpful. But I’m also starting a huge collection of hairstyles! Here’s one I thought I’d try out the other day-
(Image from Pinterest via iknowhair.com)
And here is my attempt-
Clearly I don’t have as much hair as this girl, but I thought I did an okay job. And it was way more fun to wear than just a basic ponytail!
