Ten Reasons to Love the 4th

In honor of Beauty Shop Saturday, I thought I’d post about some fun ideas for a 4th of July manicure.  If you’re handy, you could paint the flag on each nail.  Looks a little intimidating to me.  But I do like the red, white and blue on each finger.  I think what would even be more fun would be if you’d paint your thumb blue and put some drops of silver glitter on it and your fingers were red and white.  If you’re thinking these ideas would look ridiculous on you, then do something a little more fun than plain old red.  Try a glittery red, an orangy-red or a really fun teal blue.  Still makes you nervous?  Then just do your toes! Or be brave and have twenty reasons to celebrate!

Mrs. Peacock

Poor Colonel Mustard.  No one had the hots for him, but everyone thought Miss Scarlett was a temptress.  But today we’re turning Mrs. Peacock into a fashionista.  Pairing this lovely green skirt that is as easy to wear as jeans with a bright blue bustier is a step up from daywear.  Need something more casual?  Try a white sweater or a green blouse, just a shade lighter than the skirt.
However you wear it, Mrs. Peacock never looked so good.  She can be found in the library with the bangals.

Pat Down

You did it.  You took the plunge and you bought a pair of patterned shorts.  And you got them home and you said, “What was I thinking?  What do I wear these with?  I can’t pull this look off!”  Oh yes you can.  Don’t fear the pattern bottoms.  Trust me, this is just a little preview of where pants are going to wind up this fall.  You can wear these pants.  So put aside those little comments that you imagine people saying and wear what you like!  Because life’s too short for only solids.
For starters, keep your tops simple.  If you happen to find one that has a coordinating pattern, you’ve scored!  But if not, don’t stress.  Keep them neutral and you can’t go wrong.
And on a side note, who wouldn’t want those hair ties.  Must buy immediately.
You’ve got these patterned shorts down!

I Won’t Be Ruffled

I love this red shirt from St. Tropez (Nelly.com).  If you want to look sophisticated in the summertime, throw on a sweet little blouse like this one.  Add on some fuller cut trousers and take it to lunch.  Need an outfit for girl’s nite out?  Pair with some ladylike shorts.  Zip into a high waisted pencil skirt and make it office worthy.  Rain in the forecast?  Don’t get ruffled, just slip on the trench!

Red, White and Blue

The Fourth of July is just around the corner (seriously! where does the time go?) and that means dressing festively but not wearing fireworks on a grandma sweater.
For our one item three ways, let’s focus on the chambray shirt.  Pair them easily with colorful shorts and your outfit is complete.  Throw on as a coverup over a retro swimsuit.  And lastly, when you’re headed to view the fireworks, throw on as a jacket over some white jeans and a striped tank.
Now that’s what I call sparklin.

Green With Envy

It’s the start of a new week and although I’d love to keep taking vacations across the map, I thought I’d do a little stint on how to rework pieces in your wardrobe.  So we’ll call it, one item, three ways.
For today, I’ll show you how to take a dress and wear it casually, for something slightly dressier and then how to dress it up.
Let’s take this dress.  First pair it with a few casual accessories, especially the sandals and you have a bunch outfit.  For a girls’ lunch, change your accessories to metallic and add a wedge shoe.  And lastly, for date night, add some high heels and some delicate accessories.
Isn’t it great how you can get so many looks from one dress?  I have to admit, whomever owns this fantastic number is making me a little green with envy.

New York State of Mind

I’ve never been there but I think it would be fun to visit New York.  And while I know I’d be dressed for some site seeing, I’d also want to wear something fabulous out at night.  Today black and white just feels right.  Maybe it’s this New York state of mind?

European Vacation

Instead of thinking of the movie starring Chevy Chase, let’s dream about being in a romantic city soaking up some amazing architecture and sipping a glass of good wine at dinnertime.
If you are lucky enough to take a dream vacation to Europe, I’ll try not to be jealous and instead help you pack.  Be sure to include the following:  a scarf, it’ll add dimension to your outfits without adding bulk to your carry on; two pairs of walking shoes because you’ll be siteseeing everywhere; and something demure to wear for your evenings.  Regardless of what you wear, they will know you are American.  So show them how well an American woman can dress while vacationing!

Walk Into the Party Like You Are Walking Onto A Yacht

It is boating season and of course I don’t know anyone who has a yacht.  But I have always wanted to take one of those riverboat cruises.  I think it would be a wonderful quick vacation so long as the other people on the boat with you were fun…so take your friends!  And pack these pieces- flowy patterned pants that feel like pajamas but are easy breezy on the water, a sweater to stay out late at night, a scarf so you can wrap it around your head, big sunglasses for the water glare and big heels.  It’s not like you have to do a bunch of walking, all you need is to stay steady!
Ahoy!  You’re ready!
