Summer Style- From Polyvore to Real Life #25

I can’t believe there are five more days of my Polyvore to Real Life series.  How did these 30 days pass so quickly?  Well, that’s summer for you!
This outfit here was another grab something and go outfit.  I’m sure none of you know how that feels.  🙂  And that’s real life!

Q&A- Summer Wedding Outfits

I received the following question-
What do I wear to a summer wedding in Colorado?  I need something that is appropriate for a woman in her 40’s.
Thank you for your question!
I put together some ideas for you.  Don’t be afraid of strong color.  It can really make a statement without having to worry much more about your outfit.  If you need something easy to pack (and to dance all night in), try a maxi dress.  With a maxi dress you can get away with wearing flats and going with a more relaxed vibe.  If you are hoping this night will be a fun date night, wear something sexy that has hints of black.  This sheer brown dress has a small high-low skirt, an open neckline and while it appears to expose, you’re still all covered up.
Perfect for those of us who don’t want to be the mother-of-the-bride yet but don’t want to show up in the same dress as the 20 somethings!

Summer Style- From Polyvore to Real Life #9

Who says it takes time to put a look together?  Sometimes all you need is five minutes.  Which is how much time this look took me.
Here’s the breakdown:
1)  Ankle jeans call for a shoe that is meant to be seen, such as these ballet lace ups.
2)  Pick a shirt and jacket in the same color tone.
3)  A few catchy details.
Out the door!

Summer Style- From Polyvore to Real Life #4

This weekend is all about soccer, soccer and more soccer.  And the weather isn’t cooperating at all.  One minute it is sunny and hot, the next raining and cold and when you are miles from the car and home, how do you prepare?
Wear layers.  Bring blankets and extra jackets.  And don’t forget the umbrella.
I prepared for the rain and cold by starting with jeans.  Then I added a tank in case it really heated up but I threw a short-sleeved sweater over top for that mid-range temp.  In this mud, sneakers are a must.  And a few simple accessories make me feel less like a soccer mom and more like girl.

Summer Style- From Polyvore to Real Life #1

I’d love to say I did something fabulous today but I think I did something important none-the-less, I babysit kiddos.  And I am so lucky to get to spend my day with little ones who have sticky hands and messes in every room and pronounce things without their “r’s”.
What do you wear when you don’t really care what you look like?  Okay maybe sweats was your answer.  I confess it probably would be mine.  But I did have to leave the house.  So this was the next best thing-

TV Series- Felicity- Felicity Porter

Oh why don’t they make shows like this anymore?  You know, shows where college kids drop all their plans to attend the university of the person they have a crush on?  Wait, that sounds like the plot to Legally Blonde.  Hm, which came first?
I loved Felicity.  I loved how they always talked in whispers.  So I suppose I watched it with the volume turned way up.  I loved the drama of Ben verses Noel.  (My vote was always for Ben.)  I loved how I got my way in the end.
Anyone else miss shows like these?  Now we have to swallow junk like the Kardashians.

Spring Break at Home- Matinee

Nothing is more fun than to catch a flick during the day with the kiddos.  It gives you a chance to escape together into a world of imagination come to life.  And while the temptation to look like a slump just because it’s dark in there is great…instead dress the part of the Hollywood elite.  Wear some rock and roll jeans and a jacket that adds sophistication.  Throw on some wedges and a pair of dark shades and you’re ready for the picture show!

Spring Trends- Globe Trotter

My last spring trend is all about traveling the world, for clothing patterns that is.  Tribal, oriental, ethnic, you name it, it is out there.  And it can be a lot of fun to wear!  Many of these prints are pretty large, so keep what you pair them with simple- read solids.
Another trend for spring is outrageous sunglasses.  Have you ever wanted a really “out there” pair?  Now is the time to try it without feeling like Elton John circa 1970.  You can find them in all the classic shapes, so don your favorite, and see the world!

Tree Pickin

For the rest of the month, I’m using last year’s themes (before I knew about Polyvore and Pinterest) and creating new outfits for all the activities you and I may have this December.  I may make this an annual tradition.  Because this month is a doozy and anything that makes life simpler is a good thing!
