Spring Forward 2016, Look Five

I hope I’ve given you some ideas on what to be shopping for this spring.  Here’s the last outfit in this little spring collection.

This last look is for when the spring turns warmer because these little rompers are everywhere!  While this one might be a little bare as presented on the model, I paired it with a cute little bralette that is meant to be another layer.  I also topped it with a cardigan to cover up in that’s actually longer than the romper because of the fringe.  This is a look that goes against what your mama taught you.  But it’s a trend no less.  I kept the accessories earthy and simple.

And those are my five looks for a Bohemian spring. I’ll be excited to see what you’ll be wearing!

Spring Forward 2016, Look Four

This is a date night look.  Pair a pretty little Bohemian dress with some flirty little add ons.  I especially like these shoes that will go with many different looks.  And the bag reminds me of something my grandmother would have carried.  Don’t forget to make each wrist sparkle a little with some great bracelets.

Spring Forward 2016, Look Three

Need a break from jeans but not ready yet for shorts?  Don’t forget the easy style of the maxi skirt.  Last year’s floppy hat will still get some wear this spring and so will those neutral boots that you wore all winter (since it’s still not quite sandal weather outside).

Spring Forward 2016, Look Two

Another day, another spring look!  This one has a mix of styles, Bohemian, paired with some Hunter boots just in case of mud and a touch of preppy with the emerald green blouse.

Fringe is still really hot this season and you’ll find it on just about everything from shoes to bags to tops.  It captures my inner hippie.  Plus it’s fun to wear!

Spring Forward 2016- Look One

“I might even take a wild, boyish fling at writing,” says Paul Varjak from Breakfast at Tiffanys.  (If you haven’t seen that movie, put it on your must watch list for old movie night.)
I realize my productivity with this blog has lapsed but I think things are starting to come round!  I had a teething baby to wean and so many a day I’ve spent rocking a crabby baby.  I know I’ll miss those days all too soon!
Now I’m seeing the light at the tunnel though, probably just in time for the kids to get out of school and create a whole new set of challenges.  Meanwhile, let’s think about spring.  My kiddos have been out of school for break this week and it has me thinking about new spring fashion trends!
Here’s day one-
spring forward 1

Spring Forward 2016

The theme for my looks this week is definitely going to have a Bohemian influence because that look is everywhere!  And I love it.
I cannot believe I’m saying this but guess what’s big for spring…chokers.  Yes, it is 1992 and you’re pairing them with your bodysuit.  Wha????  Yes chokers.  You can blame this fashion trend from the boho look that is sweeping through stores and my closet.  While I will be a part of this trend, I will reserve wearing my choker for junking trips and nights out dancing.  I probably won’t be sporting it on the playground.  But kudos to you if you do!
A few other trends in this look are the flowy wrap blouse, the peeptoe booties, and the round sunglasses (I love those!).  Prints are big for spring.  So be on the lookout for some new patterned tops when you’re out shopping!

Breaking All the Rules- Disney Vacation

My family decided to celebrate our 10 year anniversary with a Disney vacation.  We have never been to Disney. And I’m trying to imagine how I’ll pack. It isn’t easy as the weather could be cool and rainy or hot and sunny!  Not to mention we’ll be traveling through all different climates just to get there.
In my effort to pack for kid friendly activities, I’m breaking all of my own fashion rules!
Here are five of my own fashion faux pas!
1)  Leggings, leggings, leggings
Mainly I will taking leggings because I figure I can be comfortable in them hot or cold.  And lots of layers- sweatshirts, t-shirts and outfits that I would only wear when running around after kids in a theme park.
I’m basing my outfits on what shirts I have that are tunic length.  Let’s be honest, not too many of us moms should really ever have our backside showing in leggings.  Unless you are very, very confident…
2)  A backpack
I will take a backpack to the park.  But I just can’t quite sport one of my kids.  This fun little boho backpack outta do the trick.
3)  Mainly solid tees in a loose color family
I don’t anticipate many prints being packed while will make for some lackluster outfits.  This and being constrained to tunic length tees is leaving me with a loose color family.  But this is one destination that I feel I can make some exceptions.
4)  Sneakers and flip-flops
I will also wear mainly slip on tennies and flip-flops, something I wouldn’t do at home.  But I know we’ll be walking a ton and I need these feet to be comfortable!
5)  Very little accessories
And for my accessories, earrings are about the extent of what I will pack.  They are so small and hardly take up any room!
A few things that I couldn’t leave at home that might redeem an outfit- a scarf, a necklace and don’t forget the shades!
Next week, I’ll try to redeem myself by showing the different outfits one can create from this simple packing list!

Spring Shoes for Mom

Spring Shoes for Mom

What a beautiful day!  Seeing the sun shine after the gloomy week last week is such a gift!

This week, I’d like to focus on mommy style for the spring.   I’m finding myself increasingly in flats, much to my displeasure.  So I’d like to find several stylish options.

As you know, I’m recently obsessed with white Converse.  So, of course, a pair was included in my list.

I also think a good pair of loafers is necessary, for soggy spring days.  The two-toned flats are for your ankle pants and when sandals aren’t quite warm enough yet.

And white flats will look great with denim shorts or a maxi skirt.

And for when it warms up, I love neutral sandals.  I gave you two options- one for a slip on, out-the-door-with-the-kids kind of day and the other, the gladiators, for when you want to be a little more stylish.

Spring Trends 2014- Button Ups

Day two spring trends.  And this one is just a carryover from winter, button downs!  And really buttons in general are everywhere.  A big trend this spring!

While you’ve been mainly wearing a ton of plaid flannel shirts and buffalo checks, it’s time to lighten up! Spring is all about bright colors, Burberry-inspired plaid and fun prints.

In the looks below, I added in a few sweaters to compliment your button ups in case you need another layer.  I also gave you some footwear ideas and don’t forget these button downs pair greatly with statement necklaces!

Spring Trends 2014- Easy Skirts

Spring Trends 2014- Easy Skirts

Let’s think spring!!

The meaning of spring fashion is a little different here in the Midwest.  While most people think spring equates delicate shoes, blouses and capris, we know better.  In typical recent fashion, our climates go from 20 degrees to 65 without warning.  There are very few days without muddy, dirty snowy slush and windy cold rains.  And then all the sudden its summer and you need a tank top because you’ll sweat to death.

What I’m trying to say is that there is no gradual springiness of late.  The days were you feel the tulips popping out of the snow and robins singing.  What we really have our mild winter days and then summer.

So I’m going to dress us for those.  Because let’s be real.  If we lived in LA, we wouldn’t have to worry so much about whether or not that “spring” coat is really going to keep us warm.  It was just for show anyway.

I am also going to try to focus as I always do on trends that I would wear.  You won’t see me telling you to plunk down your money on some crazy runway look- just easy ideas to consider for your spring wardrobe.

And so, number one!  Easy skirts.  We have run the gamut lately with easy skirts.  First was the skater skirt, then the maxi.  While both are still hot items, this year is a tea-length.  It is very 1950s casual.  I like to think of them as ladies aid skirts.  They are prim and proper, but sweet and forgiving- and meant to be worn to work in.  So don’t save them only for church or a girl’s luncheon!  Wear one to a picnic or a meeting or a movie out.  Give your legs and tush a break from the pencils and move again!

You can see how I styled mine.  I chose a poppy color because it always reminds me of spring.  And I paired it with a simple blouse and sweater.  I’m still in love with a poppy lip color and I like how the aviators keep the look from being too vintage.

Is this a spring trend you are willing to try?
