Holiday Looks- Sherpa Vest

Holiday Looks- Sherpa Vest

This is a look I wore both caroling and traveling. I love these sherpa vests. They add so much pow to otherwise plain jane outfits.

Who says you can wear too many buffalo prints? If you need to be warmer, layer the look with a jacket underneath the vest.

Tomorrow are my Christmas Eve look ideas and on Christmas Day, I will give you our holiday house tour.

Hope you stop by!

Fall Sports Series- Volleyball

The great thing about volleyball is… it’s indoors!  So if it’s hot or cold or raining, no worries.  And there are no bugs!  Here’s an outfit with a few layers incase you go from hot to cold in the gym.  Take your simple school shirt and add a fun little duster in your school’s colors.  Add a little interest with a fun headband and toss the tennies!  Add a little more sass by wearing a pair of cute booties!Fall Sports Series- Volleyball

Summer Concert Series- Eric Church’s Give Me Back My Hometown

Happy Birthday to me!  I’m here celebrating it with you and a little Eric Church.  Am I the only one who has a little unreasonable crush on him?
Aviators are a must with this theme.  But I really don’t know why he covers up those beautiful brown eyes with sunglasses anyway?  I think a little laid back supermodel look is right in order for Eric Church.  And of course, beer from the bottle.Summer Concert Series- Eric Church

I think this song is really about drugs overtaking smalltowns but I like to put my own spin on it and I love it more that way.  Here’s the video!

Cemetery Service

Cemetery Service

No Memorial Day weekend is complete without visiting a cemetery.  Many have special services just for the weekend.  Remembering those in military service who have died for their country is the whole point of the holiday.  But many of us also extend it to remember those in our own families who have passed on.

Whatever your reason, be sure to include a trip to the cemetery this weekend.  I’ve packed you an easy outfit to wear.

Start with a maxi dress.  You may be sitting in a lawn chair or standing for a while and you’ll want to feel comfortable.  I would normally add a pair of sandals to this outfit, but at the cemetery, the grass may be wet or you may encounter a critter or two (read snakes) that rarely sees visitors.  And an easy pair of tennies might be the better choice.  Last of all, don’t forget your shades.  It may be sunny, but you may be emotional as well.  For either purpose, they’ll serve their job.

I hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend next week!  And now you know what to pack!

Casual Weekend

Casual Weekend

The weekend is upon us and I’ve put together a few casual colorful outfits for a laid back weekend.

If you want something different, wear a skirt!  Just as easy as jeans, this striped skirt kicks up your style.  For a cool day, pair it with a comfortable sweater.

Can you tell I’m really in love with the white converse this spring?  It’s on my must-have list.  Pair them with a printed tank (no florals needed) and a cardi to keep  you warm.

If you’re a polo girl, don’t be afraid of putting multiple colors together.  Brights look great when worn in a motley crew.  What ties them together?  A simple bracelet.  Yes, you can do that.

I hope you have a bright, sunshiny weekend!

Color Inspiration

I am not afraid of color.  Maybe that should be written in color.  I am not afraid of color.

You too can say this.  Yes black can be slimming.  Yes many artists wear black.  But black can also be a prison.  Are you a red head?  Chances are black is not your most flattering color.  Or if you’re fair, black can wash you out.

If you’ve read this blog long enough, you’ll know my affinity for white.  It isn’t that I never wear black, but it is probably the color I wear the least.

For a long time, I thought black clothing was saturating the market.  But now I’m starting to see the color creep in.  Why?  Because if you have bright blue eyes and you wear bright blue, your eyes are gonna sparkle like crazy.  Color can be flattering.

It can also be an amazing mood boost.  Case in point, this week’s dreary rainy days.  If I lived in Seattle, I’d be packing my closet with color.  Imagine the difference of putting on a bright yellow dress versus a black one.  I think you’re going to feel different.  I think you’re going to walk into a room differently.

Do I have you convinced?  Maybe you’re ready to break into something colorful but not sure how to do it.  This week, I’m showing you how to wear color.

Color Inspiration

Here are three examples of colorful outfits.

Outfit one has the most color.  This is when you’re feeling very adventurous.  But it is not difficult!  Take a bright skirt with a pattern and pull a color from the skirt and wear it on top.  Sure this skirt would look great with a white or black top, but a colored top creates something more!

Outfit number two is a basic- easy printed top with jeans.  Take a look through what you’ve worn lately.  Was it all jeans paired with solid tops?  Throw a colorful pattern into the mix!

The last outfit is your basic jeans and top look.  This look is so easy but it won’t come across that way.  Match the brightness of the blue top with white jeans.  They’ll make that color pop instead of dull it down with blue jeans.

These are baby steps into color.  I’ll show you more ways to wear color tomorrow and help brighten your week!

Easter Week- Egg Hunt

What would Easter be without a great egg hunt for the kids.  Jeans are always appropriate and so are tennies.  But add a few fun accessories and a cute little jacket.

Accessorizing Your Dress

Accessorizing Your Dress

It’s time to talk accessories!  This might be my favorite part!

I found three dresses that have similar elements of my own dress and accessorized them.  I kept the accessories the same (earrings, bracelet, clutch and shoes) so that you can focus on the difference they make between looks.  Don’t forget that your hair is an accessory too!  And probably your most important one!

The first look has a sophisticated hairstyle because the dress is very simple.  I chose simple jewelry that feels very regal.  Nothing too showy but also still fancy.

The second look is more of a Grecian inspired look.  I chose the longer earrings with the longer hair, a simpler shoe to peek out the bottom of the dress and a deco looking clutch.

The last look has a sweeter feel.  Because of the rhinestones on the dress, I put the more romantic inspired hairstyle with it.  I also added the all over sparkle shoes and clutch but kept the accessories simple.

Three different looks with very similar dresses.  I hope you have fun with your accessories!
